The central government in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS) has issued the Safety of Household, Commercial & Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2023. The following Goods or articles shall conform to the Standards issued by BIS and shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018:
- All electrical appliance intended for household, commercial or similar application with rated
voltage not exceeding 250V single phase ac or 415V three phase. - Safety of household and similar electrical appliances.
- Vacuum Cleaners and Water Suction Cleaning Appliances.
- Spin Extractors.
- Cooking Ranges, Hobs, Ovens and Similar Appliances.
Nothing in this order shall apply to goods or articles meant for export. The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority for the following goods or articles. Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
