The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has issued the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) (Fourth Amendment) Order, 2023. This order has come into force from 19th June, 2023.

The Amendment Order has revised the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order, 2003.

It has inserted a new plant species in its list of plants/plant materials permitted to be imported with additional declarations and special conditions. It has introduced Shorea robusta (sal) which falls under the category of seeds/ kernels.

The Amendment Order permits Shorea robusta (sal) to be imported from Nepal. At present, it does not stipulate for any additional declarations to be incorporated into Phytosanitary certificate. It also does not contemplate any special conditions for its import.
