PCI declares that the Pharmacy Profession does not belong to a Para-Medical Group

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has issues a notification declaring that the Pharmacy Profession does not belong to a Para-Medical Group. This notification was issued on 19th June, 2023.

The pharmacy profession in India is regulated by the PCI. The PCI is a statutory body that functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. It is constituted under the Pharmacy Act, 1948 and regulates the folllowing:

  • pharmacy education for the purpose of registration as a pharmacist
  • practice of profession of pharmacy in the country

Hence the PCI has clarified that the pharmacy profession does not come under the para-medical course. Pharmacy education should not be linked with para-medical education. Pharmacy is an independent profession and shall not be clubbed with para-medical.
