LegalitySimplified

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published a Circular stating that it will hold quality checks on nutraceuticals and health supplements. The Circular was published on 6th March, 2023.

FSSAI has observed that nutraceuticals and health supplement products sold in the market are not compliant with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, and Prebiotic and Probiotic Food) Regulation, 2022.

It was also observed that these products are being marketed with false/ misleading and exaggerated health/ label claims in contravention with the provisions of the FSS (Advertisement and Claims) Regulations, 2018.

Hence, in view of dealing with these non-compliance, special enforcement drives will be conducted to check quality and safety of these products. Strict action will be taken against any Food Business Operators (FBOs) found in violation of these Regulations.
