Odisha State PCB publicises Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022

The Odisha SPCB (State Pollution Control Board) has publicised the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. This notice was published on 3rd January, 2023.

The SPCB reiterates that as per the said Waste Management Rules, there is no longer a requirement for dealers of Lead Acid Batteries to register with the SPCB.

As per these rules it is the responsibility of the consumer to discard waste batteries from other waste streams especially mixed and domestic waste streams. These batteries should be given to an entity engaged in collection, refurbishment or recycling.

All entities engaged in the collection, segregation and treatment of waste batteries, refurbishers of used batteries and recycler of waste batteries must obtain Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO).
