FSSAI deploys Food Safety on Wheels to check Milk Adulteration

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice of the deployment of Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) to check on milk adulteration in the country. This notice was issued on 3rd March, 2023.

The notice indicates that FSSAI has deployed 168 Food Safety on Wheels (FSWs) mobile food testing labs across the country. These mobile labs will be testing various food products including milk and milk products.

The ‘Milk-O-Screen’ System installed in the FSWs can carry out the following tests:

  • Fat
  • Solid not fat
  • Protein
  • Adulterants
  • Added water
  • Urea
  • Sucrose
  • Maltodextrin
  • Ammonium sulphate

The testing facility shall be carried out free of cost and shall be monitored by the respective jurisdictional designated officer at the end of every month.
