FSSAI re-operationalises FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Amendment Regulations, 2018

The re-operationalisation of the Amendment Regulations will be in effect from 16th August 2020. The Amendment envisages changes in conditions to grant of licences, such as the requirement of exhibiting a Food Safety Display Board at all times, in a conspicuous place of a restaurant’s premises. The restaurants are, inter alia, also required to purchase raw food materials only from licensed vendors and must maintain records of such purchases. The Amendment also prescribes general requirements on hygiene and sanitary practices that must be followed by all FBOs applying for licenses. These include stipulations in respect of hygiene of location and surroundings, premises and rooms, equipment, utilities, ventilation, maintenance, sanitation, etc.

The Central Government notifies the Central Goods and Services Tax (Tenth Amendment) Rules, 2020

The Amendment stipulates that from 21st August 2020, an applicant for registration under the Central Goods and Service Tax Act, 2017, has the option of authenticating his Aadhaar number while making an electronic application for registration. Prior to this Amendment, the applicant was required to undergo authentication of Aadhaar number while submitting his application for grant of registration and was not given an option in this matter. The Amendment also states that where a person fails to authenticate/ does not opt to authenticate his Aadhaar number, the registration will be granted only after physical verification of the place of business. However, the Amendment now also allows an officer to carry out verification of documents instead of physical verification of premises on fulfillment of certain conditions.

IRDAI mandates PUC Certificates for motor vehicle insurance renewal

The IRDAI had earlier called for compliance with the Directions of the Supreme Court as laid down in the case of M. C. Mehta v/s Union of India. One of these directions was that insurance companies should ensure the existence of a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC)Certificate prior to renewing vehicular insurance. The IRDAI notes that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has expressed concerns on the status of compliance, particularly in the National Capital Region of Delhi (Delhi- NCR). It, therefore, urges the General Insurance Companies to renew motor vehicle insurance policy only if the vehicle owner provides a valid PUC Certificate. The IRDAI has categorically called for strict adherence to this direction with immediate effect.
