The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on September 23rd 2024 notified regarding the Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order 2024 further to amend the Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Order 2021.

Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Order

Originally enacted in 2021, the Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Order aims to ensure that polyurethane products meet specific quality standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These standards are essential for maintaining product safety, reliability, and performance in various applications, ranging from construction to automotive and furniture industries.

Key Features of the Second Amendment Order

Effective Date Change

One of the most significant updates in the Second Amendment Order is the revised effective date for compliance. The original Order was set to come into effect immediately, but this amendment stipulates that the revised provisions will now come into force on March 19, 2025.

This extension allows stakeholders additional time to adjust to the new requirements, ensuring that manufacturers and suppliers can adequately prepare their processes, training, and quality control systems in line with the updated standards.

The Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order, 2024 is a critical step in enhancing the quality and safety of polyurethane products in India. By extending the compliance date to March 19, 2025, the government is facilitating a smoother transition for the industry, ensuring that all players are adequately prepared to meet the new standards.
